A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
A team of students from the University of Central Florida used Integrated Environmental Solutions' IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software to compete in ASHRAE's Integrated Sustainable Building Design competition. Their challenge was to design a self-sustaining meteorological station in Chile's Diego Ramirez Islands that would exceed strict ASHRAE energy requirements, maintain a tight budget, and achieve significant water use reduction over a 50-year building lifecycle.
Using IESVE for energy modeling, the team simulated and optimized the building envelope, daylighting, and HVAC systems. The solution from Integrated Environmental Solutions enabled the team to design a building that exceeded ASHRAE 189.1-2014 requirements and achieved 47% lifecycle cost savings, equating to over $6 million in client savings, while also positioning the project for LEED Platinum certification.
