Toronto Community Housing Corporation achieves 45% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) had the challenge of making their 717 Broadview Avenue refurbishment project at least 40% more energy efficient than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings. To help achieve this aggressive target, they worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions and their consultant, MCW Consultants Ltd., who utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) for detailed energy modelling and analysis.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' IESVE was used to create a detailed energy model that sized mechanical equipment and iteratively tested energy-efficient technologies throughout the design process. The solution included a ground-source heat pump system with a geothermal borehole field, energy recovery ventilation, and extensive building upgrades. As a result, the project exceeded its target, achieving 45% annual energy savings versus the MNECB and securing significant financial incentives.
