Sweco used Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) to support the design of No.1 Spinningfields in Manchester, a 92m mixed-use tower with complex façade requirements. Their challenge was to model the building’s thermal performance, daylighting, and compliance needs while achieving a landmark glazed design with strong sustainability performance.

Using Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE, Sweco carried out detailed thermal modelling, façade analysis, solar studies, and Part L energy compliance checks. The solution helped optimize glazing and fritting patterns, reduce heat gains, improve daylighting, and incorporate high-efficiency measures such as LED lighting, thermal wheels, and CHP heating, delivering 26% savings in carbon emissions and energy use and contributing to a BREEAM Excellent rating.
