Sweco achieves 26% energy and carbon savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Sweco was appointed to provide building services engineering design and sustainability consultancy for the iconic No.1 Spinningfields, a 92-meter office tower in Manchester. Their challenge was to design a high-performance, fully glazed building that would control solar heat gain, maintain comfort, and keep cooling demands low. To meet this challenge, they utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) from Integrated Environmental Solutions for detailed thermal modelling and façade analysis.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' IESVE enabled Sweco to conduct early solar analysis of the building envelope, which informed the specification of different façade patterns and a mix of clear and fritted glazing for each elevation. The solution also included modelling high-efficiency features like ventilation heat recovery and LED lighting. This approach resulted in energy and carbon savings of 26%, contributing to the building achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating.
