Stantec achieves net zero carbon and saves 803 tCO2e per year with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Integrated Environmental Solutions worked with Stantec, who participated in the 2023 ASHRAE Lowdown Showdown competition with the challenge to creatively reimagine the Houston Astrodome as a net-zero carbon community hub. Stantec needed to design for Houston's extreme climate while drastically reducing the building's fossil fuel use and carbon emissions, and they utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software for this task.

Using IESVE's tools for energy modeling, daylighting, and advanced HVAC simulation, Stantec developed a design that incorporated a fully electric system with innovative strategies like liquid desiccant dehumidification and borehole thermal storage. The solution designed with Integrated Environmental Solutions' technology achieved net-zero operational carbon, reducing emissions by approximately 803 tCO2e annually, and incorporated biophilic design principles to create a sustainable and comfortable community space.
