Red Shed, the building at Casey Research Station in East Antarctica, wanted to understand how efficiently it was operating after 25 years in one of the harshest climates on earth. Working with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), the team used IESVE to create a benchmark energy model and assess current performance as well as future energy-efficiency opportunities.

Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) built a dynamic thermal model in IESVE using climate, building, and HVAC data, including a specialized Antarctic weather file. The analysis showed the building was still operating relatively efficiently, and that retrofit measures such as renewable energy systems could improve energy efficiency by 5% with a five-year payback period.
