Princeton University cuts energy costs 57% with Integrated Environmental Solutions

The customer, Princeton University, required a comprehensive analysis and optimization for its new all-electric TIGER central plant, which needed to be integrated with its existing West Plant. Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) was engaged, and their IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software was used to perform the necessary simulations to address this challenge.

Integrated Environmental Solutions implemented a solution consisting of four separate simulations using IESVE. These included internal and external CFD analyses for heat and noise management, a study on operational sequencing and efficiency for the combined plants, and LEED energy modeling. The results were significant, showing a projected 34% improvement in cooling efficiency and a 609% increase in heating efficiency. This will enable Princeton to reduce campus carbon emissions by 40%, with a further reduction to 66% once their onsite PV system is operational.
