A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
Newcomb Anderson McCormick, Inc. worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) to model the Alameda Creek Watershed Center in Sunol, California, and support LEED Energy compliance for a highly complex building. Their challenge was to accurately simulate a unique design that combined museum, aquarium, and classroom functions, along with a specialized VRF HVAC system and other unusual internal loads.
Using IES’s Virtual Environment (IESVE), Newcomb Anderson McCormick developed the baseline and proposed energy models, with help from IES technical support, and submitted a LEED package that received zero reviewer comments. The simulation showed 43.65% predicted energy savings and 43.16% cost savings, and helped support design of a 75-kW PV system that would offset more than 100% of annual site electricity use, resulting in a net positive Zero Net Energy building.
