Newcomb Anderson McCormick achieves 43.65% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Newcomb Anderson McCormick was contracted by the City and County of San Francisco to promote energy efficiency and optimize performance for the unique, mixed-use Alameda Creek Watershed Center. Their challenge was to perform a whole building energy simulation for LEED Energy compliance for this complex structure, which included an aquarium and a specialized HVAC system. They used the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) from Integrated Environmental Solutions for this task.

Using IESVE, the team developed an accurate baseline model and simulated the complex design, including a specialized Variable Refrigerant Flow HVAC system with support from Integrated Environmental Solutions. The solution led to a 43.65% energy savings and a 43.16% cost savings over the baseline. Their LEED submission was approved with zero reviewer comments, saving considerable time. The building was also designed to be Net Positive, with renewable generation exceeding its needs, making it a Zero Net Energy building.
