National Community Renaissance (NCORE), a major developer of affordable housing, sought to deliver high-performance, climate-conscious building designs while meeting strict energy codes and its AIA-2030 Commitment targets. To achieve this, they partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions and utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) from the earliest conceptual stages of their Iris at San Ysidro project.

Integrated Environmental Solutions provided a solution where IESVE was used for conceptual massing, energy target setting, and detailed analysis of building envelopes, HVAC systems, and renewable energy options. This upfront modeling allowed NCORE to carefully study systems like heat pump water heaters and rooftop PV to reduce costs and energy use, ultimately enabling the design of a net-zero energy, 100-unit affordable housing complex that exemplifies high-performance design.
