NABERSNZ worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions to support the refurbishment of Aorangi House in Wellington, with the challenge of delivering a 46-year-old office building that could achieve strong environmental performance, good indoor air quality, and a high Greenstar rating while operating effectively in natural ventilation mode. The project used the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) as a design tool to evaluate natural ventilation, thermal comfort, passive solar strategies, daylight availability, and Greenstar credit opportunities.

Integrated Environmental Solutions helped Beca Engineers use IESVE to optimise insulation, night flushing ventilation, solar shading, and facade changes based on quantified simulation results. The building became the first refurbished office building in New Zealand to achieve a 5* Greenstar Office Design Rating and a 5* NABERSNZ Base Building Rating, with 50% better base building energy performance than the average New Zealand office building; it also achieved a 4.5* NABERSNZ Tenancy Rating.
