A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
Mercu Mustapha Kamal, a Kuala Lumpur office development with two towers and 55,000 m² GFA, needed an innovative way to bring daylight into deep floor plates of 10 to 16 meters while meeting green building certification goals. Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) supported the challenge using IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) and its Radiance capability to study daylighting strategies for what was described as the first daylight trough in a high-rise office tower in the tropics.
Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) used RadianceIES within IESVE to optimize the daylight trough design, including aperture sizing, duct length, distribution angle, and surface reflectivity for visual comfort. The solution delivered sufficient daylight as deep as 6 meters under overcast conditions and achieved 39.2% lighting energy savings, with a low lighting power density of 1.90 W/m².
