MCW Consultants worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions on the 717 Broadview Avenue renovation in Toronto, where Toronto Community Housing Corporation wanted the project to be at least 40% more energy efficient than the MNECB reference model. To meet this challenge, MCW used the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) to develop a detailed energy model and help guide the building’s mechanical design.

Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE was used to iteratively model the whole building, size HVAC equipment, and test energy-saving options throughout design. The project delivered a geothermal ground-source heat pump system, energy recovery ventilation, efficient lighting, and other upgrades, ultimately achieving 45% annual energy savings versus MNECB and helping secure financial incentives from Enbridge Gas Distribution and the City of Toronto.
