A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
Martin Gough’s student award case study features Rehnuma Parveen from the University of Adelaide, who explored how to improve the energy efficiency of apartment buildings in a fast-growing megacity. Working with Integrated Environmental Solutions, she used IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) to investigate whether a residential building could be modeled accurately enough to assess its potential for energy independence.
Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE was used to calibrate the apartment model against real-world measurements, demonstrating the value of building performance simulation for reliable results. The calibrated model achieved strong accuracy, with CV(RMSE) values of 1.37% for hourly indoor air temperature and 7.42% for monthly electricity consumption, well below the 20% threshold typically considered acceptable, showing that IESVE can support highly reliable energy-independence studies.
