Martin Gough’s award-winning student case study focused on improving indoor environmental conditions in a ready-made garment factory in Bangladesh’s tropical climate. The challenge was to find practical retrofitting options that could improve worker thermal comfort while accurately reflecting real building conditions, using Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IES-VE simulation tools.

Integrated Environmental Solutions used IES-VE for detailed 3D modelling, dynamic thermal simulation, and CFD analysis, with the model calibrated against real weather, meteorological, and operational data. The study showed that the proposed ventilation, window, and layout changes significantly improved airflow and air speeds, delivering measurable thermal comfort benefits and demonstrating that IES-VE can reliably validate and test retrofit strategies in tropical factory environments.
