A Integrated Environmental Solutions Case Study
The London School of Economics (LSE) faced a challenge with its main library's ventilation system. Following a major refurbishment and a shift to 24-hour opening, increased occupancy led to thermal comfort and air quality concerns. To address this, LSE engaged CBG Consultants, who used the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) from Integrated Environmental Solutions to perform a ventilation assessment.
Using IESVE, a complex 3D model of the building was created and calibrated with real-world data. This allowed for the analysis of various solutions, leading to the recommendation of central mechanical ventilation with peak cooling. The solution from Integrated Environmental Solutions provided significant benefits beyond ventilation; the calibrated model became a powerful asset management tool. It enabled LSE to prioritize maintenance on faulty window actuators efficiently and to run "what if" scenarios to futureproof the building against factors like climate change.
