Lateral Technologies - Customer Case Study

Lateral Technologies worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) to help John Lewis create its most sustainable store to date in York. The challenge was to deliver a BREEAM Outstanding design while also ensuring the building would actually perform as intended and support John Lewis’s goal of reducing absolute carbon emissions across its stores.

Using IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) and later iSCAN, Integrated Environmental Solutions helped Lateral Technologies optimize the store’s design and verify performance in operation. The solution included a 450 kW chiller, PV roof panels, improved air permeability, and full LED lighting, resulting in a 35–40% carbon reduction versus similar stores, 4% of electrical energy from renewables, and ongoing monitoring to identify performance gaps and support a soft landing.
