HLM Architects - Customer Case Study

HLM Architects needed to show that a 350-unit residential development in London could meet the London Plan’s demanding performance target of a 35% reduction on Part L 2013 carbon emissions, without relying on renewables or offset payments. To support this, HLM used Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE as part of an integrated BIM-enabled design process alongside Archicad.

Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE enabled HLM to export the design model from Archicad, avoid duplicate data entry, and run dynamic simulation modelling to compare passive design and low/zero carbon system options. The approach helped HLM achieve the required 35% carbon reduction and identify an average space heating demand of 6.5 kWh/m².yr, around 80% lower than SAP calculations, while informing more efficient building services and targeted use of insulation and solar control.
