Heriot-Watt University uncovers 43% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Heriot-Watt University partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions on a pilot project to measure and improve the energy performance of its Edinburgh campus. The challenge was to investigate potential energy, carbon, and cost savings across a mix of modern and older campus buildings and to create a centralized platform for visualization and data-driven decision making.

Integrated Environmental Solutions implemented its Intelligent Communities Lifecycle (ICL) Digital Twin technology, utilizing its iCD, iCIM, and iSCAN applications. The solution involved creating a dynamic campus model, calibrating digital twins of three buildings with real-world data, and developing a Command Centre dashboard. The project identified that Energy Conservation Measures in two older buildings could achieve potential energy savings of 43% and 44% and carbon savings of 36% and 39%, providing a clear pathway for the university's net zero planning.
