Green Loop reduces energy use by 54% with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Green Loop, a sustainability-focused company, faced the challenge of designing a highly efficient laboratory complex in Colombia's hot, humid climate while pursuing stringent Living Building Challenge and LEED certifications. They partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) and utilized the IESVE software to develop climate response strategies for optimal comfort and energy efficiency.

Integrated Environmental Solutions implemented a multi-phase modeling process using ApacheSim, SunCast, and ApacheHVAC to analyze solar protection, geothermal effects, and HVAC optimization. This solution allowed Green Loop to optimize the building's design and systems, resulting in a 54% reduction in energy use and a 14% reduction in cooling load. The project also achieved a reduced cooling plant size and optimized material embodied carbon, contributing to its successful certification.
