Green Loop creates Colombia’s energy code with Integrated Environmental Solutions using 1,300 energy models

Green Loop, a multi-disciplinary sustainability consultancy based in Colombia, was approached by the country's Minister of Housing to create its first universal energy code. The challenge was to update the previous code, which lacked energy modelling, and to produce a standard comparable to other worldwide codes. Green Loop used the IES Virtual Environment (VE) from Integrated Environmental Solutions for this project.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' software was used to analyze over 1,300 energy models across seven building prototypes in four different climates. This extensive modelling predicted optimum thermal comfort and evaluated over 20 different energy and ventilation strategies. The project resulted in a new energy code for Colombia, which is scheduled to be introduced into law in 2025. For their work, Green Loop was recognized with IES's VE User of the Year Award for the South America region.
