Focal Engineering partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) to support the complex energy modelling and LEED assessment of The Leaf, a new multi-climate facility at Winnipeg’s Canada’s Diversity Gardens. The challenge was to accurately model a 6,000+ square metre building with multiple biomes, natural ventilation, and highly varied internal conditions for permit compliance and certification.

Using IESVE, Integrated Environmental Solutions helped Focal Engineering model whole-building energy use, natural ventilation with MacroFlo, custom HVAC systems with ApacheHVAC, and plant moisture gains via ERGON. The detailed simulation supported the project’s path to LEED Silver certification and helped validate an innovative design featuring geothermal and solar technology.
