ECOstudioXV designs 100% passive lab with Integrated Environmental Solutions, hitting 29°C indoors

Integrated Environmental Solutions worked with ECOstudioXV, a consultancy commissioned to design a passive cooling strategy for a laboratory in a hot climate in Mexico. The client, a physicist, wanted to avoid air conditioning costs by applying historic passive principles to a modern building, aiming to lower the internal temperature 8°C below external conditions that could reach 36°C.

Using the IESVE software suite, including ModelIT and ApacheSim, ECOstudioXV performed 60-70 detailed simulations to test integrated bioclimatic strategies like shading, ventilation, and thermal mass. The analysis by Integrated Environmental Solutions' tools enabled an informed passive design that achieved an internal temperature of 29°C, nearly meeting the target, which satisfied the client and led to further collaborative projects on the site.
