DLR Group used the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software from Integrated Environmental Solutions as their primary analysis tool to compete in the ASHRAE LowDown Showdown 2022 design competition. Their challenge was to design a high-performance, net-zero energy elementary school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The solution designed with IESVE included a ground-source heat pump system, solar hot-water pre-heating, and a dedicated outdoor air system. The resulting design achieved net-zero energy operations and reduced operational carbon by 68%. This was accomplished through a photovoltaic and battery system, which also provided emergency power and reduced utility demand charges. The Integrated Environmental Solutions software was key to modeling and optimizing the building's energy and airflow performance for this award-winning project.
