COWI optimizes 42,000 m2 Axeltorv Square with Integrated Environmental Solutions

COWI, a consulting group, faced the challenge of ensuring high performance and energy efficiency for the complex 42,000 m² Axeltorv Square development in Copenhagen. Their goal was to optimize daylighting and minimize cooling loads for the circular office towers while collaborating closely with the project's architects. To meet this challenge, they utilized the IES Virtual Environment from Integrated Environmental Solutions.

Using the IESVE's ApacheSim and SunCast applications, Integrated Environmental Solutions' software enabled COWI to perform detailed solar and energy analysis. This allowed them to optimize window placement, develop an effective shading strategy using vertical fins, and simulate energy consumption and indoor climate. The solution facilitated a strong collaborative dialogue with the architect, resulting in the development of a high-performance, low-energy design that incorporated an efficient facade, glazing, and ventilation system.
