CBG Consultants - Customer Case Study

CBG Consultants worked with London School of Economics (LSE) to address ventilation and indoor environmental challenges in the main library. Following a major refurbishment and changes in occupancy patterns, LSE needed to improve thermal comfort, air quality, and support 24-hour operation in a large 20,000 m² building. Using the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE), CBG Consultants created a calibrated 3D model to assess how the library was performing.

CBG Consultants used IESVE, including MacroFlo, to simulate airflow and test multiple options such as window actuator adjustments, mechanical ventilation, solar films, and peak cooling. The analysis identified central mechanical ventilation combined with peak cooling as the best solution, while the model also helped LSE prioritize window actuator repairs and support asset management and maintenance planning. The calibrated model was further used to evaluate future “what if” scenarios, helping futureproof the building against occupancy changes and climate impacts.
