Calderdale Council maps a £2bn net zero path by 2038 with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Calderdale Council faced the challenge of developing a detailed and actionable plan to meet its ambitious local net zero target by 2038. To tackle this, they partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), which utilized its cutting-edge digital twin technology to create a dynamic model of the entire borough.

Using the IES digital twin, the council could visualize energy use and simulate the impact of various decarbonisation measures to identify the most technically suitable and cost-effective pathway to net zero. The solution provided by Integrated Environmental Solutions enabled the creation of a comprehensive Local Area Energy Plan, which outlined key actions including retrofitting insulation to 75,000 homes and replacing fossil fuel heating systems in 100,000 buildings. The plan estimates this transition will require £2bn in investment, create over 3,000 jobs, and result in significant annual carbon savings of 250,000 tonnes CO2e.
