The British University in Dubai used Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE software to support a student research project on improving visual comfort and reducing energy use in a typical office building in Dubai. The challenge was to identify internal shading and daylighting strategies that could be applied to both existing and new office buildings in the UAE while balancing energy consumption, glare, and illuminance.

Integrated Environmental Solutions used IESVE to run 363 simulations covering daylighting and energy performance across south, east, and west orientations. The best-performing solution combined thin film coating, light-sensor dimming, and automated split controlled blinds, delivering total energy savings of up to 36.2% in the south orientation, 31.1% in the east, and 32.4% in the west, while also improving daylight utilisation.
