British University in Dubai achieves up to 36.2% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

The British University in Dubai sought to investigate solutions to improve visual comfort and reduce energy consumption in office buildings in the UAE. Integrated Environmental Solutions provided its IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software to model and simulate a typical Dubai office building, analyzing both daylighting performance and energy use for lighting and HVAC systems.

Using IESVE, a total of 363 simulations were performed to assess various internal shading and glazing combinations. The solution from Integrated Environmental Solutions identified an optimal control method combining thin film coating, light dimming, and automated blinds. This approach achieved significant energy savings, up to 36.2% for the south-facing model orientation, with substantial reductions in both cooling load and lighting energy consumption.
