Bright Green Strategies achieves 12 kBtu/ft2 EUI with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) partnered with Bright Green Strategies, a sustainability consultancy, to address occupant comfort and energy efficiency challenges on several residential projects in California. The primary challenge was to perform detailed overheating analysis and energy modeling for projects that were not planned to include cooling systems, ensuring they met comfort standards and sustainability goals.

Using IES's Virtual Environment (VE) software, Bright Green Strategies conducted comprehensive comfort analyses against the ASHRAE 55-2017 standard and detailed energy modeling. The solution identified overheating issues and effective mitigation strategies like ceiling fans and sunshades, and optimized building systems for energy performance. This resulted in one project achieving a low site energy use intensity (EUI) of 12 kBtu/ft², meeting California's strict energy code, and provided validation that designs met occupant comfort standards, leading to more informed and sustainable design decisions for their clients.
