BAM models 50+ UK schools with Integrated Environmental Solutions to meet net-zero criteria

BAM Design, the design team of UK contractor BAM, needed to meet the Department for Education's stringent net-zero and future climate adaptation criteria for new school buildings. To succeed on the DfE's construction framework, they required detailed performance modelling to optimize designs and ensure compliance. They turned to Integrated Environmental Solutions and its IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software for this capability.

Integrated Environmental Solutions provided BAM with the IESVE toolkit to run granular overheating analyses, CIBSE TM52 and TM54 assessments, and detailed energy modelling. This allowed the team to interrogate performance data, pinpoint issues like overheating causes, and develop optimized control strategies for ventilation and heating. Using IESVE, BAM successfully designed over fifty schools, enabling them to standardize a high-performance approach, accurately predict energy use, and close the performance gap to meet the DfE's robust net-zero operational mandates.
