AtkinsRéalis identifies up to 15% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

AtkinsRéalis, a world-leading design and engineering organization, faced the challenge of supporting Hong Kong's ambitious net-zero 2050 target by improving the energy performance of its vast existing building stock, which accounts for the majority of the region's electricity consumption and carbon emissions. To address this, they partnered with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) to utilize their IESVE software and iSCAN data analytics platform for a new approach to retro-commissioning.

The solution implemented by IES involved creating physics-based digital twins of over 50 government buildings, which were calibrated with real operational data using iSCAN. This allowed AtkinsRéalis to holistically analyze building performance, identify faulty equipment, and simulate the impact of operational changes and retrofits. As a result of working with Integrated Environmental Solutions, they identified operational energy savings of up to 15% per building, delivering an estimated annual electricity saving of approximately 7,000 MWh per year and making a significant contribution to Hong Kong's decarbonization goals.
