Preview of the Arup Case Study

Arup delivers a net-zero campus with Integrated Environmental Solutions, cutting 100+ tonnes of carbon yearly

Arup was tasked with designing the first Net-Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCio) school campus in Wales for Flintshire County Council, a significant challenge that required ensuring optimal energy performance and climate resilience for 25 years. To achieve this, Arup utilized the IESVE dynamic thermal modeling software from Integrated Environmental Solutions to rigorously test and refine the building's design against future climate scenarios and strict thermal comfort criteria.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' IESVE software was central to developing the solution, enabling Arup to perform comprehensive parametric testing and optimize a dual-mode natural ventilation system with specialized chimneys. The results were a successfully delivered NZCio and BREEAM 'Excellent' rated campus that generates over 500,000 kWh of electricity annually from its solar panels, cutting carbon emissions by more than 100 tonnes each year and ensuring it produces as much energy as it consumes.
