Affiliated Engineers, Inc. achieves 32% energy savings with Integrated Environmental Solutions

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) was the MEP Engineer for a mass timber teaching facility at the University of Arkansas. Their challenge was to deliver optimal energy efficiency and occupant comfort for the unique building while meeting high sustainability aspirations and staying within the project's budget. To achieve this, they utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) from Integrated Environmental Solutions for detailed performance modelling.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' IESVE was central to the solution. It was used to test and optimize a unique natural ventilation system driven by the building's profiled roof and to model various HVAC strategies. The software enabled the team to quickly iterate building forms and optimize performance. The results were significant, with the project achieving a 32% energy saving over the baseline and an EUI of 53 kBtu/sf/year, contributing to a targeted LEED Gold certification.
