Case Study: AECOM achieves LEED Platinum and 100% solar-powered performance with Integrated Environmental Solutions (IESVE)

AECOM used Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) to model Golden 1 Center, the Sacramento Kings’ new arena and practice facility. The challenge was to design a highly complex, high-performance indoor sports venue that could meet ambitious LEED requirements while optimizing energy use and comfort.

Using Integrated Environmental Solutions’ IESVE, AECOM carried out LEED energy modeling, including complex geometry, displacement ventilation, radiant floor modeling, and post-processing to evaluate savings. The result was the first indoor sports venue to achieve LEED Platinum certification, with a 30% reduction in energy use versus Title 24, a 40% reduction in energy cost versus ASHRAE 90.1:2007, and the distinction of being 100% solar powered and ranked in the top 3% of all LEED-certified buildings.
