Maersk Oil - Customer Case Study

Maersk Oil needed a more accurate way to quality check geomodels and standardize petrophysical models from different formats inside Petrel. To solve this, Maersk Oil worked with INT Software to create a custom workflow for petrophysical modeling and seismic inversion, helping them compare modeled seismic responses with real field data and reduce uncertainty in reservoir models.

INT Software delivered the solution as a custom Petrel plugin called Mod2Seis, available for Petrel 2009 and 2010. It enabled grid population, synthetic seismic generation, wavelet selection, and flexible algorithm customization, and was delivered as an installable EXE that configured Petrel automatically. The result was Maersk Oil’s first proprietary plugin, now used to generate synthetic seismic from geologic models and iteratively update models until they match the original seismic data more closely.
