Utah Education Network (UEN), the statewide K-20 public education network in Utah, needed a single learning platform to streamline access to its fiber network and extensive library of standards-aligned content for students, teachers, colleges and libraries. After a competitive RFP, UEN selected Instructure’s Canvas LMS (rolled out beginning in 2011) to connect public schools, colleges, universities and libraries and better bridge high school to postsecondary experiences.

Instructure implemented Canvas as a statewide LMS, rolling it out to every public college and university in 2011 and expanding into K-12; by Fall 2015 UEN reported 242,696 K-20 courses using Canvas, 1M+ monthly visits to UEN.org (including Canvas content), 3,500+ teachers completing UEN professional development in Canvas in 2015, and 89,710 K-12 students using Canvas at the start of 2015–16 with plans to reach all 41 districts (~622,153 students). The Instructure solution delivered a consistent, scalable platform that enabled cost savings, collaboration, expanded distance and dual-enrollment offerings, and statewide professional development.
