Shakopee Public Schools serves 8,000 students with Instructure Canvas LMS

Shakopee Public Schools, a district serving 8,000 students in Minnesota, faced the challenge of personalizing learning for every student and providing individualized technology support for its 600 educators. As they prepared to roll out a 1:1 device program in 2013, they needed a learning management system (LMS) to serve as a central hub for this initiative. They adopted the Canvas LMS from Instructure to meet this need and to help scale differentiated, blended instruction across the district.

The solution from Instructure centered on using key features within Canvas LMS, specifically Mastery Paths to automatically assign differentiated content to students and Admin Analytics to identify and provide targeted training for teachers. This implementation provided a consistent, district-wide framework for course design. The results included more purposeful and personalized learning for students and efficient, self-paced professional development for teachers to meet relicensure requirements, directly enhancing the quality of the student learning experience.
