Powering a New Approach to Education at Fontys ICT

Fontys University (Fontys ICT) is a large Dutch university of applied sciences that wanted to move away from traditional, linear teaching toward personalised, self‑directed and applied learning. To support small‑scale, student‑owned learning and more open, collaborative curricula, Fontys adopted Canvas from Instructure as its core learning platform.

Instructure’s Canvas provided customizable courses, collaboration tools and real‑time performance data that let students control their learning and teachers act as guides. Canvas helped Fontys prioritise applied knowledge, foster independent learning skills, enable industry collaboration and deliver actionable insights into student progress, redefining teacher roles while maintaining oversight.
