A Instructure Case Study
Madison County School District in northern Alabama faced a fragmented technology environment: students and parents had to log into multiple LMSs and the district’s BYOD program needed a single, easy-to-use platform to bring everyone together. In 2015 the district selected Canvas (by Instructure) to replace the patchwork of systems and provide a unified LMS that would work with their BYOD initiative and planned Google integration.
Instructure piloted Canvas at one high school, then the district rolled it out district-wide with workshops and training; Canvas integrated with the district SIS and tools like SpeedGrader and Google. The result: Canvas supported more than 19,000 students and 1,400 teachers (about 20,746 users), 3,000+ published courses with 97% published, 100% BYOD usage, widespread use of assignments, and reduced absenteeism during e-learning PD days—while enabling blended and flipped learning and better preparing students for college.
