A Instructure Case Study
Knox County Schools faced a districtwide push to personalize learning and implement a 1:1 initiative after a failed Race to the Top grant; district leaders launched the School Technology Challenge and identified an LMS as the critical "glue." After evaluating eight platforms, Knox County Schools chose Canvas from vendor Instructure in 2013 to support the rollout.
Instructure implemented Canvas across an initial 11 schools (650 teachers) in fall 2013 and expanded accounts to more than 5,000 teachers and staff by fall 2014, giving grades 4–12 districtwide access. Teachers reported higher student engagement and easier assessment and feedback (SpeedGrader, quizzes, LTI integrations); Canvas became an indispensable part of Knox County Schools’ 1:1 program and helped scale the district’s personalized learning efforts.
