Fairfield County School District closes achievement gaps with Instructure and 3–5 point benchmark accuracy

Fairfield County School District, a rural district in South Carolina, needed a new assessment partner after a previous vendor stopped fulfilling their needs. Their challenge was to close the achievement gap for their student population, 86% of whom are children of poverty, by finding a platform to administer benchmark assessments and guide data-informed instruction. They turned to the vendor Instructure and adopted its product, Mastery Connect.

Instructure provided the technology and partnership for Fairfield County to implement a successful assessment program. Using Mastery Connect and Mastery View Predictive Assessments, the district trained educators on data analysis, which empowered students to take ownership of their learning. The solution provided immediate, reliable data that teachers used to strategically guide instruction and interventions. As a result, the district's benchmark assessments became a reliable predictor of state exam performance, with scores differing by only 3-5 percentage points, and one of their schools won a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence honor.
