Delivering a reliable and accessible learning experience to a diverse student community

Grimsby Institute, a Further & Higher Education provider committed to developing digital literacy across a diverse student body, faced an unreliable, high‑maintenance VLE (long‑term Moodle use) that threatened blended learning delivery and uptime. Seeking a quick, reliable and easy‑to‑use platform, the college selected Canvas by Instructure to replace their existing system and better support staff and students across devices.

Instructure delivered a hosted Canvas VLE with strong Office365 integration, mobile access and vendor support, reducing local maintenance risk and improving reliability; the platform was fully rolled out in 2017 and is now integral to Grimsby’s blended learning. Teachers responded positively, adoption has enabled flexible learning anywhere, and Canvas also supports staff development through built‑in competency badges — all outcomes Instructure helped achieve while lowering the institution’s operational burden.
