City University of Hong Kong scales online learning in 8 days with Instructure

City University of Hong Kong (CityU), a Canvas customer since 2015, faced the challenge of rapidly transitioning all classroom instruction online at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The institution needed to quickly train over 1,200 educators and provide a central hub for resources to ensure 30,000 students could continue learning online without disruption.

Instructure's Canvas LMS provided the scalable and reliable platform for this rapid shift. CityU built a dedicated training website and conducted numerous sessions for educators, while students utilized the platform's mobile access and multimedia tools. The results included hosting over 2,000 students simultaneously and a more than doubling in the production of media recordings, from 1,900 to over 7,200, for lectures and student presentations. Instructure's solution ensured learning continued effectively online.
