Chaffey College, a California institution with 29,000 students, partnered with vendor Instructure using its Canvas LMS and Canvas Credentials service. The college successfully used these tools to issue over 10,000 micro-credentials for employability skills but faced a significant challenge due to a lack of integration between systems. This required a highly manual process of exporting and merging data to award credentials, which was inefficient and made it difficult for faculty and students to track progress.

Instructure's Custom Development team worked directly with Chaffey College to create a solution: the Credential-Outcomes Alignment Tool. This custom tool automated the process by allowing administrators to configure awards in Canvas Credentials based directly on mastery of outcomes from Canvas LMS. The results eliminated the manual data work, provided personalized progress tracking portals for faculty and students, and allowed the college to run its micro-credential programs with greater speed and efficiency.
