Canvas helps transform medical education through online learning

iheed, an Irish medical education company founded by doctors to expand access to accredited postgraduate training, faced the challenge of delivering interactive, scalable courses across diverse geographies to address a global skills shortage in healthcare. To meet this need the organisation partnered with Instructure and adopted Canvas as its virtual learning environment, starting in 2014, to deliver flexible, content-rich programmes to students and professionals around the world.

Using Canvas from Instructure, iheed implemented a scalable, open-source VLE with quick deployment and strong vendor support; the platform consolidated assessments, grading, standards tracking and messaging in one place and allowed iheed to build customized solutions. The result: a robust system that now supports more than 25,000 users and delivery to thousands of institutions globally, enabling rapid roll-out of accredited courses with few teething problems and measurable scale and reliability improvements.
