Case Study: University of Wolverhampton achieves digital campus transformation and teaching innovation with Instructure (Canvas)

Canvas Changes Teaching, Learning & Culture at Leading Modern University

The University of Wolverhampton, as part of its £250m "Our Vision, Your Opportunity" Digital Campus Transformation Programme, needed to replace its long‑standing homegrown VLE (WOLF) and shift culture toward student‑centred, technology‑enhanced learning. To support roughly 23,000 projected users and modernize pedagogy, the university selected Canvas from Instructure in 2016.

Instructure delivered a pedagogy‑first Canvas rollout—early adopters, cross‑disciplinary training and course reviews—to replace WOLF and drive cultural change. By September 2017 Wolverhampton was delivering courses for all 500 degree programmes on Canvas, improving course structure, engagement and mobile access, and positioning the university to expand e‑assessment and other Digital Campus initiatives.
