British Columbia Institute of Technology issues 4,000 course badges with Instructure

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) sought to provide tailored, industry-aligned learning programs that offer students clear paths to careers. The challenge was to implement a digital credentialing system that would allow for stackable, verifiable badges and microcredentials while ensuring compliance with Canadian information privacy requirements. To meet this need, BCIT partnered with the vendor Instructure and adopted its product, Canvas Credentials.

Instructure's Canvas Credentials provided the solution, enabling BCIT to issue and manage digital badges. The implementation included a pilot of three distinct delivery models for microcredentials, which were successfully integrated and laddered into larger programs. As a result, BCIT has issued over 4,000 course badges and 1,000 program microcredentials, substantially growing its offerings and providing students with a flexible, verifiable way to showcase their skills to employers.
