American Dynamics launches mobile CCTV streaming for 9 camera feeds with Instil

Instil was hired by American Dynamics (Tyco) to develop Victor Go, a mobile companion application for their Victor security platform. The challenge was to port the desktop CCTV streaming and control experience to mobile devices. This required supporting up to nine concurrent high-definition camera streams without degrading image quality or causing excessive battery drain, a feat that existing streaming libraries could not achieve.

Instil built the application using the Xamarin framework and created a bespoke C++ library called Surge to handle the efficient streaming and decoding of video. This solution enabled the decoding of up to nine camera feeds on both Android and iOS devices. Instil's approach significantly reduced development effort and cost by reusing code across both platforms, maximized hardware efficiency, and simplified the overall codebase.
