SOSMobile’s Role in Helping One Small New England Electric Utility Achieve More With Less

Groton Electric Light Department, a small New England utility in Groton, Massachusetts, needed a better way to replace spreadsheets and paper-based field processes as it worked to maintain high reliability, low rates, and strong customer service with a lean team. After implementing InsightAtlast’s SOSMobile alongside mPower’s Integrator and Outage Management System, the utility looked for a more affordable and flexible mobile workflow that could fit its existing processes and hardware.

InsightAtlast’s SOSMobile helped GELD automate order entry, field job briefings, time tracking, inventory usage, and Dig Safe notification handling through SOSDispatch, SOSRemote, and Email Monitor. The result was less paper, better OSHA compliance, real-time inventory visibility, more accurate time data, and automatic conversion of 811 emails into electronic work orders; Kevin Kelly said the system “definitely contributes” to doing more with a small staff and was “well worth the investment.”
